Bayern Munich loan Chris Richards to Hoffenheim
Chris Richards wants to continue to develop as a defender in one of Europe’s top leagues, but this season with FC Bayern Munich he has just seven appearances in all competitions and one assist. Since the 20-year-old doesn’t see many opportunities with the current Bundesliga champions, the team decided to loan him to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the remainder of the season.
The deal was announced on Monday and Hoffenheim will not have the option to buy Richard when the loan ends. The USA international joined Bayern Munich U-19 in January 2019 after a breakout season with FC Dallas in Major League Soccer a year earlier.
The 20-year-old made his debut for FC Bayern Munich on June 20, 2020, beating Freiburg 3-1. In his second year with the first team, Richards made three Bundesliga appearances this season for Bayern and his first assist came in his first start when they beat Hertha BSC 4-3 in October.
Hoffenheim have a European race this season
His last game for the current champions came on December 5, 2019 when he came as a substitute against RB Leipzig. Now he will have a new opportunity to save minutes with Hoffenheim who are currently 12th in the Bundesliga and 10 points off the last qualifying place for the Europa League.
